And a really inspirational talk it was too! twitter.com/HelenRichenda/…
With regular writer Matt now having left us for pastures new (but clearly not pastures better), I’m stepping into the Current Distractions breach this week – which will consequently mostly be about Glastonbury.
So, I’m back in the office after a week off at two rather different music festivals. The first was the perhaps highbrow Glyndebourne (aerial pic below) to see the dress rehearsal of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniara, one of two of the OAE’s opera’s running at the festival this year. A wonderful production teamed with beautiful sunshine and a glass of bubbles made it a great start to my week off. La Finta Gardiniara and Handel’s Rinaldo will be running at Glyndebourne until the late Summer, to get tickets and to see what else is on, see here.
I set off the next day packed with the essentials of living in a tent for the next 4 days to the world famous festival of contemporary performing arts, Glastonbury (below, a bit different to Glynders). What a contrast! There wasn’t too much Prosecco flowing at this mud fest, more cans of non-descript lager and bizarre coloured bottles of water. All I’ve been able to talk about sine coming back in to the office is Glastonbury (sorry colleagues!), if you have never been, I urge you to go – young or old, all are welcome at this magical place. The major highlight of course was Dolly Parton, within minutes of her walking on stage she had the entire audience captivated, this review in the Guardian hit the nail on the head, if you missed Dolly’s set see it here (without having to get any mud on you!).
I stumbled upon this great furniture which I would one day love to own; intricately designed table top topography by Greg Klassen made with hand cut glass embedded into discarded wood to create enchanting rivers and lakes. I think they look pretty great. Greg Klassen was inspired by his surroundings in the Pacific Northwest, you can own one of his designs for a mere $3.5k-9k. Nice right? And totally affordable on an arts administrators salary…
Finally, happy 4th July to all Americans! Have a great day being independent from us Brits.
